This is a restoration we recently did for a HOA in Oceanside, Ca (North of San Diego) 5 panels had be etched with a glass cutting tool, all of our local competitors said that this type of damage is either too deep to resurface or would leave distortion. As you can see from the pictures and video, the scratches have been completely removed from the glass and there is no discernible optical distortion left behind.
