Glass resurfacing ”scratch resistant” tempered glass
Glass Resurfacing for Scratch-Resistant Tempered Glass – SeaWorld Otter Exhibit Restoration
Glass Savers recently completed a glass resurfacing project at the otter exhibit in SeaWorld San Diego, restoring 17 large scratch-resistant tempered glass panels to near-perfect clarity. Guests come to this exhibit for an up-close look at playful otters, but the scratched and cloudy glass had been ruining the view. Replacement would have been costly, disruptive, and unnecessary—so we brought the panels back to life with our precision resurfacing process.
A Fun but Tricky Challenge
This one was a fun challenge—mostly because there was no level ground to stand on. The rocks near the glass were covered in slippery moss, making it a constant balancing act to maintain even pressure and keep the resurfacing tool perfectly flat against the glass.
When resurfacing glass—especially large panels in an exhibit setting—control and stability are critical. Any uneven pressure can lead to distortion, swirls, or haze, which is completely unacceptable for high-visibility installations like this.
Before: Scratches Blocking the View
The glass on this enclosure was covered in scratches to the point that it was difficult to even see through. For an animal exhibit, that’s the worst possible outcome—guests pay to get close to the animals, and when the glass is marred, it robs them of the experience they came for.
Restoring 17 Large Panels
Over the course of the project, we resurfaced all 17 large tempered glass panels, working carefully to ensure every section met our exacting standards. We removed the scratches entirely without leaving swirls, distortion, or haze.
Our process:
-
Maintains a perfectly flat surface for visual clarity.
-
Preserves the optical quality of the glass.
-
Avoids unnecessary replacement costs and downtime for the exhibit.
The Results
By the end of the project, the glass was as clear as the day it was installed. Visitors could once again enjoy an unobstructed view of the otters, and SeaWorld avoided the high cost and disruption of replacing so many large panels.
Another win for restoration over replacement—and another example of why our clients trust Glass Savers for projects where flawless results are the only option.
