Penguin exhibit scratched glass resurfacing

Penguin Enclosure: A Unique Challenge with Cool Perks

Embarking on the penguin enclosure project in San Diego was a refreshing change.  Like all projects there were unique challenges but this one also had a couple of unique advantages. One of the most significant advantage was the relief from the scorching summer heat. Working in San Diego during June might seem mild, but the intensity of the sun can make standing nose-to-glass an uncomfortable and not allow the glass to cool down quickly when resurfacing which can slow the process. Not nearly as uncomfortable as another project I vividly remember the heat and humidity from a project I tackled last summer in Alabama, where I found myself drenched in sweat even before 8 AM, a time when many in the summer vacation community were still fast asleep.

However, the Seaworld job in San Diego provided a unique luxury: the opportunity to work inside a penguin enclosure where the temperature hovered around a chilly 35-40°F. No battling summer heat here! It was amusing to bundle up in the middle of June, a rare sight in sunny San Diego. This cooling environment more than compensated for the challenges we faced, such as difficult access, deep scratches on the glass, a tight timeframe due to the penguins needing to return swiftly, and coordinating with other contractors whose work depended on mine.

Despite these challenges, the end result was remarkable. Initially, the glass was marred with scratches and covered in algae, making it difficult for visitors, especially children and shorter individuals, to catch a glimpse of the penguins underwater. Our efforts not only saved hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of glass from replacement but also enhanced the experience for visitors. Many consider the penguin exhibit their favorite attraction, including the children from my immediate and extended family who visited a couple of months later.

It’s immensely satisfying to preserve valuable resources and create a better experience for visitors. When you need your glass resurfaced to as close to perfect as possible, call Glass Savers.

As you can see, we were able to get the scratches out, and without leaving any noticeable optical distortion or obvious sign of repair.

Over the years, we’ve run into countless scenarios like this one, where our client was told by the “other guys” that the scratches couldn’t be removed.   Not only are we able to remove the scratches that no one else can 9 times out of 10, but we do it without leaving behind all of the obvious signs of repair that are common with most other glass “repairs”

When you need glass resurfacing, and you need it done right, we are the only ones you need to call.

Don’t take our word for it though, in addition to the largest online gallery of previous jobs we’ve done, we also offer no-obligation demos of our services because we know you’ll be thrilled with the final result we deliver.
